# Defining length of time step appears for

If you want a step to only appear for a limited amount of time before disappearing, you can utilize this feature. Once the defined time is over, the step will be considered completed and the user will proceed to the next step.

1. Toggle the **Elapsed** feature on and enter a number for the amount of time that should elapse before the step gets completed
2. **Save** your changes

We recommend using this feature for the steps where only the users’ attention is required (without any action needed). This will speed up the overall completion process as once the time is up the step will complete itself and the user will proceed to the next step.

***Note:** If you are planning to use this functionality, keep in mind the **application or page load time** influenced by the users’ internet speed, computer processing power or number of simultaneous apps running. If you set the time elapsed too short, the step will complete before the user gets to interact with it.*

***Note:** You can also choose for the step to end immediately by toggling on the option.*

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs-adopt.nexthink.com/in-application-guidance/defining-conditions-for-completing-a-step/defining-length-of-time-step-appears-for.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
