# Mouse Down

The mouse down event occurs when the user presses a mouse button over an element **(does not necessarily need to release the mouse click over the same element).**

1. The mouse pointer goes over an element
2. The mouse button is clicked over an element

So, when the user’s mouse goes over the element within the application, the user proceeds to the next step. If the Next button is disabled, the user does not have any choice but to select the element.

***Note: Mouse click** and **mouse down** are different. The **mouse click** event is fired only when a full click happens. Full click is when the mouse button is pressed and released while the pointer (mouse) is still over the same element. The **mouse down** fires as soon as the button is initially pressed even if the user does not release it or releases it over a different element.*

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs-adopt.nexthink.com/in-application-guidance/defining-conditions-for-completing-a-step/a-step-is-complete-when/interaction-selection/mouse-down.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
